On October 16, 2026, at the School of Languages at Eskişehir Technical University, an inspiring presentation entitled “The Teacher in the Loop: Choosing the Right GenAI Tool for the Learning Goal” brought vital insights into practical and ethical AI integration.

The session focused on how language teachers can make informed, pedagogically grounded decisions when incorporating generative AI into their classrooms. Emphasizing the principle of starting with learners’ needs and intended learning outcomes rather than the technology itself, the presentation explored AI tool selection through practical classroom scenarios, student data privacy, fairness, accessibility, and the teacher’s active role in evaluating AI-generated content. Through case-based challenges, participants examined when AI can meaningfully support language learning—and when alternative approaches are more appropriate. Highlighting the importance of maintaining teacher agency, the event demonstrated how AI must always serve pedagogy and remain guided by professional judgment. Furthermore, the session contributed significantly to the New Gen Language Teachers project dissemination by promoting ethical AI uses and fostering valuable networking among language educators.
