In 10th March, 2026, Dr Eva Virag Suhajda, representing Hafelekar Unternehmensberatung Schober GmbH and the New-Gen Language Teachers project, had the honor of speaking at the DIGARD project conference on a topic that is often overlooked: the deep ethical dilemmas of AI.
We all know about hallucinations and sustainability. But as we prepare the next generation of educators, we need to look deeper into the “shadows” of the algorithm:
– Data Colonialization: Where does the data come from, and was consent ever truly given?
– Linguistic Inequality: Whose logic is the AI using? Is it reinforcing dominant cultural norms at the expense of others?
– Entangled Agency: When the prompt ends and the output begins, who is the true author?
– Opaque Algorithms: If our world is biased, our data is biased. How do we teach what we cannot see?
– Geopolitical Resilience: What happens to European education if the “plug is pulled” across the Atlantic?
– The Digital Investigator: In a world of deepfakes, the teacher’s role is shifting from instructor to forensic evaluator.
Our research in the #NewGenTeach project has uncovered a startling paradox: Most people (especially young pre-service teachers) believe they already fully understand AI ethics.
As the Zen master said: “It’s hard to pour water into a glass that’s already full.” Our mission is to help educators “empty the glass”—to move past overconfidence and develop the Human-in-the-Loop approach necessary for a digital future.
